The Culture in Migration artifact box contains Senegalese artifacts including meal time bowls and mat, a tea set, written materials, and reproducible materials that can be used to implement activities/lessons that center around group and individual exploration of culture and ways of remembering in the face of migration.
The objective of these activities/lessons are to increase self-cultural awareness and understanding of the other and their importance. All of these activities reach Michigan state standards and benchmarks.
This box was developed and authored by Anya Wiley a fourth grade teacher, with the assistance of Dr. Ibrahima Seck, but can be adapted for a wide-range of grade levels.
