The Literacy and Language Policy Curriculum Artifact Box (Box #2) contains materials and course plans that can be used to contextualize the ways literacy is practiced in Senegal schools and educational institutions, such as the daaras or Qu'ranic schools and the women's literacy programs in the interior of the country.
These materials range from Qu'ranic writing boards, pictures of individuals engaged in reading and learning activities, grammar books for one (i.e. Wolof) of the six national languages, and videos that put the use of Wolof and French (the "Official" language in Senegal) in context.
This artifact box, developed by Yvette D. Hyter, Ph.D. with the help of Mr. Lamine Kane, Consultant and Educational Sociologist, Dakar, Senegal, can be used to address the project themes of language policy, literacy, globalization, and migration .
The Literacy and Language Policy Curriculum Artifact Box ( Box 2 ) is housed at the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA) and can be borrowed for use in your classroom.
